Is a wedding band with a thinner back side poorly made?

I found a custom wedding band at a jewelers and haven't seen anything similar - it's platinum, 2mm along the front (with diamond fragments inlay - under 1/4 karat), and thinner along the back. I'm concerned about the durability of a ring that's under 2 mm. I read somewhere that rings that are thinner along the back can be poorly made (since it's a way to use less metal).

When I described the style to another jeweler he said it was an old-fashioned look, but I find the look of the contemporary wedding bands to be very plain.

Yep, I agree....it's thinner in the back for comfort reasons. With most well-made rings...they often times have a thinner back to them for this reason. But, with any ring you get....I would get some sort of insurance on it...right at the jewelry store...so if it breaks somehow or gets lost you'll be able to replace it....
