Waiting for the wedding band until the first anniversary?
My fiance and I are concerned about the expense of our wedding. He suggested that we wait until our first anniversary to buy our wedding rings. I'm a bit concerned about this because I don't know how it would work without being awkward. I feel like at the reception people will be wanting to see our bands and we'll just be showing them the same engagement rings that we've been wearing for a year. And I just don't think that the ceremony will be very special if we don't give each other a symbol of something new and exciting, rather than just the rings we already own or filler rings that we aren't planning to wear for very long. As it is, our engagement rings are just silver rings, so they don't have much excitement to them either.
But then again, he has a point about the money.

Why can't you buy $20 sterling rings for now, and buy some nice ones for your year anniversary? Remember, saving money for weddings is for the many things you DON'T need, such as expensive gowns, $300 shoes, a $1000 limo, and an expensive cake.
Rings are important because the greatly affect your identity and perception in public. It's a crucial symbol for after you're married, especially since it sounds like you'd be uncomfortable without it.
